Marriott Bonvoy Loyalty Program: Tiers & Points Explained
Marriott Bonvoy replaced Marriott Rewards in 2019 as a single, unified loyalty program spanning more than 7,000 hotels across 131 countries. Membership is free, and it’s built to serve very different kinds of travelers under one umbrella.
Earning points
Members earn a base rate of 10 points per dollar on most paid stays, with additional points available through co-branded credit cards — including bonuses worth up to three free nights — and through the Eat Around Town dining program, which pays out 4 points per dollar for regular members and 6 for elite members.
Redemption options
Points convert into free nights, rental cars, gift cards, merchandise, and airline miles. Award-night pricing is dynamic, and the program runs a standing “Stay for 5, Pay for 4” promotion for members redeeming points on longer stays.
Elite tiers
Six membership levels run from basic Member up to Ambassador Elite, requiring between 10 and 100 qualifying nights per year plus a spending threshold. Higher tiers unlock bonus point multipliers ranging from 10% up to 75%, rewarding the most frequent travelers disproportionately.
A budget-friendly alternative
Marriott Bonvoy Escapes offers members a flat 25% discount on select stays, giving less-frequent travelers a way to get value from membership without needing to hit elite-tier thresholds.
